Free Bible Course:
"How to Study the Bible" our free study course
is offered to anyone attending RBIS, on campus, in Beaumont, TX.
We at RBIS believe it is important that everyone should be able to
discover all the Bible has to offer, so we offer this free Bible course to
anyone who wishes to enroll for the class. You are not required to take
any other classes or continue after the class completion. This course
involves individual and group Bible study. You will learn the guidelines
for interpreting the Bible, discover nine different ways to study the
Bible and obtain the principles for life application of the biblical Word.
This class is only scheduled when we have student requests. For a full

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
BAPTIST HISTORY
BH 01 Southern Baptist Polity
A study of the Southern Baptist Convention including the relationships between
World Baptist, Baptist State Conventions, Baptist Associations, and Baptist
churches along with a study of the Baptist Faith & Message.
BIBLE DOCTRINE
BD 01 Systematic Theology
This course will demonstrate that
the Holy Scriptures are without any mixture of error of truth. That Bible doctrine and Baptist naturally go together,
because Baptists base their faith and practice solely on the Bible. At the end of the course the student will know what
Baptists believe and why they believe it.
CD 01 Christian Doctrine
A study of Christian doctrine as gleaned from the Bible itself with T. B.
Matson’s Christian Doctrine as a companion textbook.
BIBLICAL THEOLOGY
BT 01 New Testament Survey
An overview of the New Testament from Matthew to Revelation, designed to
familiarize the student with the theme and content of each book. Attention will
be given to how Christ is portrayed throughout the New Testament.
BT 02 Old Testament Survey
This study gives an overview of the major events in the scriptures prior to the
first advent of Christ. It will reveal that the Bible is one continuous story of
God’s redemptive love for mankind and revealing the coming Messiah as the
central theme.
BT 03 Life of Christ 01
This study covers the historical story of Jesus’ earthly ministry as recorded in
Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
BT 04 Life of Christ 02
Description of this new course will be posted before the Fall Semester 2010
BT 05 Life of Paul
A thorough examination of Paul’s life, looking in detail at the man, his call,
his message, its meaning, his motives and manner of not only declaring but also
demonstrating the living Lord in his life.
BT 06 General Epistles
Through the study of doctrinal and practical exhortations to the first century church and individuals
who are addressed, one will gain a thorough understanding of these letters in order to apply practical Biblical principles
to the life of the 21st Century.
BT 07 Romans
A systematic doctrinal study of the essentials of the Christian faith written
to the church at Rome for their ministry to the pagan world. Within this
presentation one will discover the meaning of the cross in the life of the
believers and will clarify the core concepts of the Christian faith: sin and
righteousness, faith and works, justification and election.
BT 08 Revelation
The course begins with the four basic interpretations that are worthy of note.
Then the study will pursue the futuristic interpretation of the book with an
attempt to see its relevance for our time setting.
BT 09 Pentateuch
This course covers the first five books of the Bible (Genesis – Deuteronomy);
the study will affirm the importance of the creation account to be the
foundation for the entire Bible. The course concerns the beginnings of man, his
fall, and the consequences of sin, with God continually responding in redemptive
love.
BT 10 Historical Books
This study includes
Joshua – Esther, covering the time when the Israelites took possession of the
land, the period of the judges, establishment of a united
kingdom and eventually the deportation of the northern and southern kingdoms
and finally their return and restoration.
BT 11 Books of Wisdom
This is a study of Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and the Song of Solomon.
These books tell of the experiences of the heart and soul’s consciousness of
God. The course will equip the Christian to employ these books for self-help and
to counsel with wisdom and encouragement.
BT 12 Prophecy Books
The course will study the books of prophecy giving the setting and time in
which they are written. Where there is a dual prophecy in the biblical text
(concerning the immediate future or distant future) this will be highlighted.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
CE 01 Building and Maintaining a Christian Education Ministry
Develops the skills
needed for organizing, planning, coordinating and evaluating the complete Christian educational ministry of the church. The student will gain
a clear understanding of basic principles of Christian education.
CE 02 Teaching Ministry
"Teaching Teachers to Teach" is a basic comprehensive manual offering practical
guidance that helps teachers learn the art and practice of teaching. Throughout
the course we identify the basic elements of the teaching process and outline
the essential ingredients needed for effective teaching.
CE 03 Teaching Skills and Methods
This course will train teachers in group dynamics, methods, styles, class
discipline, lesson preparation, and presentation, including new
skills and methods for active teachers in their church.
CHURCH BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION
CA 01 Church Business Administration
This course equips the church business manager and other church leaders to
organize and direct the business affairs and manage non-staff personnel of the
church.
CA 02 Church Office Management
This course is designed to give the church office manager the knowledge and
skills in office management. Special attention will be given to organizing,
planning, directing office personnel and office policies.
CA 03 Church Secretarial Skills
This course will train the church secretary in duties regularly performed by
church secretaries including the use of computers. Software introduction of
Windows, Word and Excel programs will be taught.
CC 01 Church Computer Basics
This course is for the beginner with little or no knowledge of
computers. You will learn to set up the computer, printer, load programs,
use Windows XP and Microsoft Word and to operate these basic computer programs.
CC 02 Church Computer Intermediate
This course continues equipping the student in the use of the other programs in
Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel and Office Publisher.
CC 03 Church Computer Advanced
This course completes the church computer courses with Easy Worship, Power
Point and how to develop and maintain a web site with Front Page
CHURCH EVANGELISM
CV 01 Church Evangelism
Equipping and preparing the church to evangelize from, “….Jerusalem, Judea, Summaria, and the uttermost parts of the earth.”
CV 02 Evangelism in Action
Equipping the church member in the art of personal evangelism. Then finding, cultivating and leading the lost person to become a Christian and nurture
that person in becoming a trained witness in personal evangelism.
CHURCH HISTORY
CH 01 Church History
is a study of the church history from Matthew 16:18 to the present.
CHURCH MINISTRIES
CM 01 Christian Counseling
Equips the student with the skills in counseling with Christian principles. The
course uses the principles of communication enhancement and relationships as its
basis. This course is not meant to train a person to become a certified licensed
counselor.
CM 02 Christian Leadership
This course is designed to help students discover and learn leadership styles and methods
needed in becoming a Christian leader. They will also learn how to implement these styles and methods to organize,
plan, schedule, conduct ministries and survive in the ministry.
CM 03 Church Host/Hostess
This course is designed to equip the person in developing and maintaining social
functions, new member fellowships, holiday festivals, kitchen functions and
general church dinners and fellowships.
CM 04 Church Recreation
This course is designed to train the person in developing and maintaining a full church recreation
program including sports, drama, physical health programs and games.
CM 05 Growing a Great Commission Church
This course is designed to lead the church in using the five Great Commission
principles (Matt. 28:19-20) by leading the church to evangelize the lost and in training the members
to become ministers in their own church through these principles.
CM 06 Working With Volunteers
Helping leaders to understand, recruit, work with, lead and appreciate these volunteers.
CHURCH POLITY
CP 01 Baptist Polity
Training leaders to establish church polity, articles of faith, constitution and by laws and
operational guidelines, which are consistent with New Testament principles.
EV 01 Church Evangelism
Equipping the church to evangelize from “….Jerusalem, Judea, Summaria and the
uttermost parts of the earth.”
EV 02 Church Evangelism in Action
Equipping the church members in the art of personal evangelism in finding, cultivating and leading
the lost person to Christ then developing the new Christian to become skilled in the art of personal evangelism.
GENERAL STUDIES
GS 00 How to Study the Bible
We at RBIS offer this free course to anyone not already enrolled in the
seminary. This course involves individual and group Bible study. You will learn
the guidelines for interpreting the Bible. Also, you will discover nine
different ways to study the Bible and obtain the principles for life application
of the Word.
GS 01 How to Study
This course is designed to help the student who has been out of the academic world for a while.
The course will help you establish good study habits again.
LANGUAGE STUDY
LS 01 Conversational Spanish 01
This course will
take you from no knowledge of the language, to an ability to converse in Spanish and develop Spanish cultural
awareness of the Hispanic people.
LS 02 Conversational Spanish 02
Prerequisite for this course is LS 01. Spanich 02 expands your conversational abilities in
the spoken word. The class begins in English and moves to only Spanish being spoken by the professor and students.
LS 03 New Testament Greek 01
This course provides a foundational study of Biblical New Testament Greek.
LS 04 New Testament Greek 02
Prerequisite for this course is LS 03. This course builds on the foundational study in helping
the student become proficient with New Testament Greek.
LS 05 Hebrew Language
This course provides a foundational study of Biblical Hebrew.
LS 06 Sign Language
You will be prepared to sign the worship services, Bible studies, help the deaf in their needs in
all events while attending your church and institute other deaf ministries as they arise.
LS 07 Russian Basic Language 01
This course is designed for anyone with little or no knowledge of the Russian language. You will learn the correct
pronunciation of unfamiliar sounds in the Russian language, become familiar with the Russian alphabet, numbers, learn words and phrases
needed for direction, traveling, eating and lodging. You will also learn some of the Russian culture with the do's and don'ts while
you are a guest in that country. You will be able to carry on basic, limited phrases with the citizens of a Russian speaking nation.
LS 08 Russian Conversational Language 02
Russian 01 is a prerequisite for this course, or the instructor's permission is required. The first six weeks
will be conducted in English expanding your Russian Basic Language 01 vocabulary. The remaining ten weeks will continue in developing
conversational skill with all instruction and responses being conducted in Russian. At the conclusion of your study you will be able
to converse with the citizens of a Russian speaking country.
PASTORAL MINISTRIES
PM 01 Pastoral Care
Equipping the pastor with pastoral care skills dealing with hospital
visitation, death, terminal illness, crisis and divorce among the topics.
PM 02 Pastoral Leadership in a Single Staff Church
This class is designed to enhance pastoral leadership with skills in the single
staff or small church environment. Equipping the pastor to function with a
strategy for confronting the multi-faceted leadership responsibilities facing
today’s Christian leaders in using these leadership skills in developing
volunteer church staff members, setting priorities, delegation, working with
church volunteers, guiding the business affairs of the church and much more.
PM 03 Principles and Application of Biblical Preaching
Students will learn the basic principles of biblical preaching including sermon inception, construction, and delivery.
Students will learn to interpret Biblical passages and will present original sermons that will be evaluated by their
classmates. Students will also examine the art of preaching from an historical viewpoint by evaluating sermons from church and Baptist
history.
PM 04 The Bi-Vocational Pastor
Equipping the bi-vocational pastor to better manage time, prioritize ministry needs and help in the pressing need of
sermon preparation.
PM 05 The Minister's/Staff Member's Wife
Helping the Minister's / Staff
member's wife understand their role as the wife of a spiritual leader.
WORSHIP MINISTRY
WM 01 Foundation of Worship Ministry
This course will equip the students for the worship ministry of the church
to understand and develop worship styles to meet the need of their congregation.
You will gain skills in training of soloists, ensembles, choirs , praise teams
and productions of musicals.
WM 02 Music Ministry for Pastors
This course is designed for the pastor who is the only staff person to
build and maintain a great worship service through the music program of the church,
building and directing a choir and leading congregational singing.
WM 03 Music Composition and Arranging
Equipping the student in the art of reading, writing, arranging and transposing
music. No prior music knowledge is needed.
WM 04 Voice Lessons
Training the singer in the proper use of the singing voice for solos, duets,
trios, quartets and groups.
WM 05 Worship Music Expressions
This class will prepare the minister of worship in teaching the choir to be worship leaders. To plan,
organize, and conduct a choir rehearsal, choosing the right music for your church’s worship style and teach the choir the music using coral and vocal techniques.

YOUTH MINISTRIES
YM 01 Purpose Driven Youth Ministries
A basic, supplemental, organizational manual that will assist you in building a
strong youth ministry based upon Biblical principles and 9 components that will
promote a healthy youth ministry. The "What to Do?" question in promoting such a
ministry will be answered. Areas dealing with the levels of your personal commitment, student commitment, organizational
structure and transferable principles that will work in any size church will be explored.
YM 02 Developing Youth Strategies
“How To Do It” strategies that will aid in implementing the youth ministry in
becoming an integral part of the overall ministry of the church, improving
communications of youth ministry, involving parents and youth in building strong
families, all the while utilizing the five New Testament purposes (evangelism,
worship, fellowship, discipleship and ministry). Also teaches ways to build a solid recruitment,
training and leadership program for youth ministry.
